Sonder — the realization that every person around you is living a life as rich, complex, and full of longing as your own.
That's where we start.
Sonder Life is a secular, inclusive learning community built on a simple belief: children are not vessels to be filled — they are people to be known. We gather here, in a real home with muddy boots and a tent in the yard, because we believe learning happens best when it feels like living.
We are homeschoolers, families, and guides from every background and walk of life. We don't agree on everything — and we think that's exactly right.
Our Mission
The Sonder Life Learners program aims to support the homeschooling community by providing an educational experience with professionals and making a community of highly motivated self-directed adults who can guide young minds in exploring their intrinsic interests. Experiencing the difference between community and activity as we all develop our minds nourishes our bodies and promotes self-awareness and accountability. The program is child-led at its center, the adult guides encourage children to explore their interests and set self-made goals.
We believe every child deserves to be seen — in their full complexity, their particular genius, their own unfolding story.
Together, Sonder Life and Hawthorn Hearth are building a village: a place where the 5-year-old learning through imaginative play and the 13-year-old learning to navigate the world on their own terms are both exactly where they need to be.
We are secular and inclusive. We welcome all races, cultures, family structures, political perspectives, and ways of being. We are not afraid of children's freedom. We trust them.
