Welcome

A home for curious minds. A village for growing humans.

The word sonder is the realization that every person around you is living a life as rich, complex, and meaningful as your own.

The hawthorn tree has long symbolized shelter, protection, seasonal beauty, and the sacredness of home.

Sonder Life Learners and Hawthorn Hearth exist to support homeschooling families through meaningful community, thoughtful guidance, and developmentally respectful learning.

We are rooted in one simple belief: children are not vessels to be filled, they are people to be known.

Together, we offer two distinct programs connected by a shared philosophy.

Hawthorn Hearth honors the early years (4-8) through rhythm, wonder, warmth, imaginative play, and gentle foundations.

Sonder Life Learners serves the middle age (9-14) children through autonomy, mentorship, self-directed learning, personal goals, responsibility, and real community.

We gather here in a 120 year old home, with muddy boots by the door and a warm tent in the yard, because we believe learning happens best when it feels like soulful living, through belonging, freedom, responsibility, and trust.

We believe every child deserves to be seen in their full complexity: their strengths, sensitivities, challenges, gifts, and unfolding story.

Our role as adults is not to force growth, but to tend it, to create spaces where children can explore their interests, build capability, practice accountability, and become more fully themselves.

We welcome all races, cultures, family structures, identities, beliefs, and ways of being. We do not need to agree on everything to grow well together.

We trust children.
We honor childhood.
We are not afraid to make mistakes and get messy.

Come as you are. Grow as you need to.

This is our village.
